Description
In 1930, Antonis Benakis, the son of a politician born in Alexandria Egypt in the late 19th century, established what is widely regarded as Greece's finest museum. Featuring three floors with impeccable treasures of the Bronze Age through WWII, visitors can marvel at the beautiful Byzantine icons and extensive collection of Greek regional costumes, as well as complete sitting rooms from Macedonian mansions intricately carved and painted. Benakis had an eye for beauty and made sure that even the agricultural tools in the museum were aesthetically pleasing.
