Description
The 1848 Villa Ilissia houses this remarkable museum, featuring exhibition halls, a majority of them underground, filled with religious art. Chronologically, the displays documents the transition from ancient traditions to Christian ones and the emergence of a distinctive Byzantine style. Iconic images are prevalent, but in addition there are delicate frescoes (some of which were retrieved from a church and placed on floating panels) and artifacts of daily life.
