Description

The National Archaeological Museum is home to an important collection of Greek inscriptions, which the casual visitor may find uninspiring due to the tersely labeled shelves of stones in the main hall. Two newer sections, however, provide visitors with an understanding of the Greek writing system, as well as showcase the most historically revealing pieces, such as a third-century copy (or perhaps forgery) of the decree ordering the evacuation of Athens before the Persian invasion of 480 BC.
