Description

The ruins of the largest structure ever built by Hadrian in the 2nd century AD remain at the site. It was much more than a library, encompassing music and lecture rooms and laid out as a typical Roman forum with a pool in the center of a 100-column courtyard. The west wall near the entrance has been restored, while the only other traces of the library are two churches built in the 7th and 12th centuries, respectively.
