Deanna Maganias, a Greek-American sculptor, proposed a memorial to the victims of the Holocaust that is comprised of a fractured Star of David created from Egyptian marble. This fragmented design is symbolic of the devastation that Greece's Jewish inhabitants endured during Nazi German occupation, and the names of the places in Greece where Jews were deported to concentration camps are inscribed onto the marble.
