The Propylaia, constructed by Mnesicles between 437 BC and 432 BC, is an architectural marvel and was the monumental entrance to the Acropolis. Comprised of a central hall flanked by two wings that each featured a gate, these five portals were the only paths to the "upper city" in antiquity.
