Every hour, on the hour, the traditional-clad evzones (presidential guards) stand guard at the tomb of Parliament. On Sundays, the change of guard is enhanced with a procession from Vasilissis Sofias to the tomb, accompanied by a band. The evzones uniform—the fustanella (white skirt) and pom-pom shoes—is an homage to the klephts, the mountain fighters of the Greek War of Independence.
